PADI Open Water Diver

Your underwater adventure starts here.

Have you always dreamed of breathing underwater and discovering a completely new world? The PADI Open Water Diver course is the first level of PADI diver training and gives you the knowledge and skills you need to dive safely and with greater independence together with a buddy.

What you'll learn

You'll learn the fundamental principles of scuba diving, how to use and manage your equipment, and the techniques needed to plan and carry out recreational dives.

Throughout the course you'll progressively develop the skills to control your buoyancy, breathe and move underwater, manage your equipment and correctly handle the main situations that can arise during a dive.

Once certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, you can dive with a buddy within the limits of your training and, for adults, to a maximum depth of 18 metres.

Course structure

  • Theory (PADI eLearning): independent study of the fundamentals of diving through the PADI digital programme, with knowledge reviews, quizzes and a final exam.
  • Confined water: 5 training dives/sessions in a pool or a suitable confined-water environment, where you'll learn and progressively refine the fundamental scuba skills.
  • Open water: 4 training dives in the sea or another open-water environment, where you'll apply the knowledge and skills gained in confined water.

The overall length of the course depends on how sessions are organised and on your progress. The programme follows PADI Standards and allows the time needed to properly acquire knowledge and skills.

Prerequisites

  • Adequate water skills and compliance with PADI medical and fitness-to-dive requirements.
  • No previous diving experience required.
