PADI Rescue Diver + Emergency First Response (EFR)

Learn to prevent problems, manage emergencies and look after others.

This bundle combines the PADI Rescue Diver course with the Emergency First Response – Primary & Secondary Care (EFR) programme, creating a complete pathway dedicated to preventing and managing emergencies, in and out of the water. EFR gives you the core CPR and first-aid skills; Rescue Diver teaches you to apply prevention, assessment and problem-solving to dive emergencies. At the end you'll earn PADI Rescue Diver and Emergency First Response Primary & Secondary Care.

What you'll learn

With Emergency First Response you'll learn to recognise and manage life-threatening emergencies through Primary Care procedures (assessment, CPR, managing the main emergencies) and, with Secondary Care, situations that aren't immediately life-threatening: assessing illness and injury, bandaging, splinting, burns and other common situations. Training includes hands-on practice with realistic scenarios.

In PADI Rescue Diver you'll learn to recognise potentially problematic situations before they become emergencies and to respond in an organised, effective way: self-rescue, recognising and managing stress, assisting a tired or distressed diver, managing a panicked diver, searching for a missing diver and rescuing an unresponsive diver.

The goal is to develop awareness, decision-making and problem-solving, thinking not only about your own dive but about the safety of the whole group.

Course structure

  • Emergency First Response – Primary & Secondary Care: knowledge development and hands-on training in CPR and first aid, with simulations and emergency scenarios.
  • PADI Rescue Diver: knowledge development followed by in-water training: self-rescue review, 10 rescue exercises and 2 final rescue scenarios.

The two courses are organised as a single progressive pathway: first the first-aid and CPR skills, then their application to the diving environment.

Prerequisites

  • PADI (Junior) Adventure Diver with the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive completed, or a qualifying certification.
  • The requirement for CPR and first-aid training within the last 24 months is met directly by the EFR Primary & Secondary Care included in the bundle.

Note: the EFR CPR & AED course alone is not sufficient as a Rescue prerequisite; Primary & Secondary Care training (or a recognised equivalent) is required.
